One advantage of our centre being based smack bang in the heart of Dublin city is the array galleries, museums, and exhibitions spaces all located right on our doorstep, and the wonderful Irish Museum of Modern Art just a short tram journey away is certainly no exception.
Steeped in history and culture, IMMA's location at a former army barracks in Kilmainham made for a wonderful trip last Thursday for our students off on another afternoon excursion. Entry to most of the gallery spaces is free, and so we gladly took the chance to to mooch around two exhibitions by Irish artists Patricia Hurl and Kevin Mooney.
The practical application of learning is a big part of the coursework here at NGGS, and so the students was able to kill two birds with one stone, wandering throughout the gallery space, taking in the weird and wonderful paintings, drawings, and installations on display, and completing essential work for their art and photography modules at the same time. All in all, a very well-spent afternoon that was equal parts productive and fun.
